The Graben is one of Vienna’s most elegant shopping streets, and features the unmistakable Baroque memorial column in the Square, erected in memory of victims of the black plague.
This type of Holy Trinity Column is unique to the countries which formerly were part of the Danube Monarchy.
As part of the “Golden U”, the Graben connects Kärntnerstraße with the Kohlmarkt. The Graben is home to up-market and mass-market shops, with such renowned brands as H&M, Gerry Weber, Tod´s, Escada and Cartier.
The entry to the Graben towards Stephansplatz (St. Stephan’s Square) is characterized by diverse open-air restaurants, including traditional Viennese cafés as well as international restaurants. The Graben is a favourite tourist destination due to its extraordinary architecture.
