Kohlmarkt
The Kohlmarkt is part of Vienna’s so-called “Golden U” which connects the Graben and the Hofburg, the palace where Austria’s former monarchs resided. The Kohlmarkt is the location of Vienna’s luxury shopping district with such brand shops as Fendi, Gucci, Glashütte, Tiffany and many others. The highest rental rates in Central Europe can be found here.
The Kohlmarkt is also attractive because of its architecture – not only because of the breath-taking view of the copper dome above Michaelerkirche (St. Michael’s Church), but also because of the beautiful historic buildings. Of particular interest is also “Loos Haus”, planned by architect Adolf Loos, and very controversial at the time because of its simplicity, and can be found today in virtually every architecture digest and travel guide.
