Kärntnerstraße

Kärntnerstraße (Kärntner Street) is part of the “Golden U”, and stretches between Stephansplatz (St. Stephan’s Square) and Karlsplatz (St. Charles’ Square). From a retail point of view, the section up to the opera house is of the greatest interest. It is one of Austria’s most-frequented shopping streets and is characterized by so-called mass-market shops such as Zara, H&M, Mango etc. Several very exclusive jewellers are also located on Kärntnerstraße, including the headquarters for both Wagner and Wempe. The traditional department store Steffl and P&C Weltsstadthaus, built by Norman Foster, are additional landmark buildings in the area. Kärntnerstraße ranks among Austria’s most sought-after retail space.
